In this Newbery Honor Book, a 13 year old girl is accused of murder, brought to trial, and found guilty. The story is composed of a series of "confessions" from Charlotte which tell the story of her journey to America in 1832. Its representation of the 19th century is fantastic. This is a great historical novel and nautical adventure. This mysterious book is suggested for students age 9-12 and is perfect for late elementary and middle school kids. It integrates into the curriculum for most grades and is a fantastic read...especially for those kids who feel they have been "wrongly accused."
